fax: 0818382010
Via Traversa La Vigna 14, Island of Capri
This small family run guesthouse is located in the middle of the town in an exceedingly nice area encompassed by trees. It’s really a just couple of minutes from the all major attraction of the island, like the famous Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra).
CHS@AU students and faculty used this guesthouse and liked it greatly. It provides the least expensive rates in the region.
Cortona
San Marco Hostel
phone: 0575-601-392
Via Maffei 57
Based on Rick Steves, this really is one of the best hostels in Italy.
Florence
Hotel Globus
phone: 39 055 211062
fax: 39.055.239.6225
Only 500 meters from Santa Maria Novella stop and less than the usual 5 minute walk in the major sights from the city: the Church of San Lorenzo using the Cappelle Medici, the Duomo and Galleria dell’Accademia.
During Florence, try the Ristorante il Latini (off Via di Vigna Nuova at Via Palchetti 6 within the Santa Maria Novella area). This restaurant offers family style eating at a bargain price. One of Bradbard’s favorites.
Forio (Iscia)
This is an excellent excursion following the Pompei/Naples trip. Girls from Summer 2005 stayed inside a great apartment. They recommend calling 081.98.2594 or 347.056.4203 (it’s the same location). Make sure to tell owners that the group from Auburn stayed there last summer. There are lots of good restaurants across the water-great seafood along with a calm and slow paced life. Not much shopping here however, you can go to the Poseidon Thermals Baths (pursue 1 pm to renegotiate deals). The students described it as being “absolutely amazing! It’s just like a waterpark/spa!” Book early.
Orvieto
Hotel Valentino
Your accommodation Valentino is located in a newly restored Renaissance palace within the historical center of Orvieto. Costs are good.
Positano
Hotel California
Family run, very hospitable people, request Maria (mother) and let her know you have been sent by Susanna from the studentesse Americane, from Interlinea …she’ll know.
Beautiful just right the very surface of Positano, you can have breakfast on the balcony exploring the sea, the beach reaches 15 minutes walking distance
Nice rooms, average price.
Hotel Savoia
Very central, under 10 minutes in the beach. Beautiful hotel, higher class compared to first one, fine service
Hotel La Bouganville
Mounted on Savoia hotel so central, family run, nice but reduced standards when compared with Savoia. Some rooms are extremely nice, some less, without any windows. You spend breakfast (within the range of 6 euros per person).
Villa la Tartana
phone: 089.8812193
fax: 089.8122012
Excellent position, in the center of little shops, several steps and you’re simply on the beach!
High standard, higher prices.
Casa Albertina
Towards the top of many steps but beautiful location with breath catching view balconies around the sea, around the opposite fringe of town from Hotel California. Very pretty rooms, excellent breakfast.
Villa Rosa
Not far from Hotel California; very pretty, excellent breakfast.
Miramare
Around the outer side from the street, across from Casa Albertina, its reason for strength may be the
position right over the sea; nice hotel, bigger bathrooms than the others, it is right with a very cozy alley around 400 steps that get you down to the beach.
Siena
Residenza D’Epoca Borgognini
A little residence hotel recommended by Susanna. Inexpensive for Siena. Some rooms have private bath yet others do not, however the place is really small it doesn’t matter. Very cozy alley between the houses around 400 steps that get you down to the beach.
Venice
Ai do Mori
phone: 39 0415204817
fax: 39 041 5205328
Calle Larga San Marco 658 – 30124 Venezia
Closer than you think from San Marco Square. No breakfast, but costs are a bargain for Venice, particularly because of the location.
Hotel Antigo Trovatore
Susanna’s recommended this towards the Summer 2005 students. They described it as being “amazing…great location!!” It’s locared 100 meters from Piazza San Marco. Breakfast buffet is roofed. Students say, “ intend to eat dinner near sunset through the Rialto Bridge-it’s beautiful. Lunch in Murano ia also nice!…Plenty of shopping here…go ahead and take water bus to Murano, where the majority of the glass is created. Plan to go before lunch, because the water bus stops running within the late afternoon…book early.”
Hotel Lisbona
Recommended by Summer 2005 students. Comment: “Don’t get your meals at the restaurant your accommodation owner’s brother owns…your accommodation owner will attempt to tell you it’s affordable but they swindle you!…Shop close to the Rialto Bridge and walk around into a few of the alleys near it…take waterbus to Murano-glass making shops are closed on weekends in summer but it’s neat to determine anyways…don’t purchase the first thing you see-compare prices since they’re different.”
